This week we have one of our nearest and dearest friends, Barbora Vaníčková from @whistlersewing. Those of you that have met her know what I’m saying when I tell you Barbora is the sweetest person you’ll ever meet! But don’t let her sweetness fool you, this boss babe is non stop hustle! From huge hours behind the sewing machine altering and repairing the wardrobes of Whistler to making custom orders, sewing and craft workshops, kids camps, craft markets, Christmas markets, a second business making Christmas ornaments, and helping out with her husbands business, this woman is one busy gal! And all this with a smile on her face ☺️ We are so thrilled to have her right upstairs from us too because she also does the repairs on our vintage! Keeping all of our favourites (and yours) out of the landfill for that little bit longer!! Here are our 10 questions with her!
1. Where’d you grow up and where do you live now?
I grow up in Czech Republic, I am from a small 600 people village - I was raised with the idea I will not stay there forever. But the move to Whistler surprised my entire family including me. It was meant to be one season only - you know - this week it will be 9 years.
2. What is your definition of strength?
The ability to be kind and not lose yourself in any situation. Like my grandma, she didn’t have an easy life, but she has never broken down or lost her love for everyone.
3. What is something that’s important to you now that never used to be?
Time - I value it much more. And blankets everywhere - can’t live without them.
4. How would you describe your style?
Very simple, straight cut, no patterns and once in a while something completely ridiculous. I like to look classy but most of the time I spend in my work clothes.
5. Favourite food to cook at home?
Chlebicek - Czech open sandwich loaded with everything and anything you can imagine.
6. What’re 3 books on your bookshelf?
Leonardo Da Vinci biography, How the Penguins Saved Veronica (Hazel Prior) and The $100 Startup, Chris Guillebeau - my business bible.
7. What’s something you want to accomplish in the next year?
Next year will be huge for me, I will have to start a completely new life, everything will change and it is really exciting. I love big changes and I am ready to welcome them. Can’t tell much details, unfortunately - I am pretty superstitious and don’t want to jinx anything.
8. Tell us something people would find surprising about you.
I love big theft stories - I would love to rob something and run free and wild like Bonnie and Clyde - unfortunately, we all know how those stories always end up 🙂 So I will have to leave it in the dream department.
9. Favourite movie?
Godfather, Forest Gump and everything Christmas.
10. How do you want people to remember you?
With a big smile.
